Yoga is simple.
It’s not all about toe touching, or bending into crazy pretzel-like poses and chanting.
Yes, we stretch and twist – and put our bodies into some nifty shapes – but the poses are just a starting point. By holding a pose, or flowing between them, we begin to notice our breathing, to identify sensations in our body and observe the patterns in our thinking.
Time on the yoga mat is your space. A quiet, safe place to get in touch with how you feel and cultivate a compassionate connection to your body and mind.
Many people are drawn to yoga by the postures or ‘asana’ (meaning ‘holding’) and most enjoy yoga for the physical benefits of using muscles and improving flexibility. What makes yoga different to most other forms of physical activity is that when we match our breath with our movement and focus our attention, the poses can be a form of moving meditation – meaning a calming benefit to our minds.
Yoga benefits:
- Reduced body tension and stiffness
- Better posture and muscle tone
- Increased flow of oxygen to the brain – lifting your mood.
- Reduced feelings of stress and anxiety
- Increased flexibility
- Enhanced mental focus
- Improved sleep
Workplace specific classes
Why not schedule a remedial class for you and your colleagues or friends? You’ll learn how to tease out stress from the parts of your body which feel tense and breathing techniques to overcome anxiety. With regular classes you can develop a toolkit to ease body tension and manage the challenges of your working day.
Teens
Pressures from academia, peers and at home, plus changing bodies and growing minds can make life as an adolescent a roller coaster ride. Yoga can help young people find balance in their lives and a sense of calm. Yoga can be incorporated into the school PE curriculum, or delivered as an after school or lunchtime club.
One to one sessions are ideal for total beginners who may be considering a regular class, but feel self-conscious, or anxious about it.
